As much as we don’t want to believe it, how we are holding ourselves for hours each day has an impact on our body’s habits.
- When sitting at your computer all day, make sure to align your head so it’s supported over your spine. Get up and stretch your neck, move around, and remember to push the head and chin back a little.
- Check in with yourself and notice if you are touching your back teeth together. If you are, you are clenching. Open your jaw slightly. This will allow the muscles in your mouth to relax.
- When lifting a heavy box or object, bend the knees to pick it up, and hold it close to your body. Bend your knees when you put it back down, too.
Cranial Therapy can help provide relief for those who have jaw pain (TMJ/TMD), facial pain, migraines, headaches, sinus issues and allergies. Dr. Maria assesses areas with limited motion and gently adjusts the sutures of the skull using a technique called Chirodontics. These sutures are actually serrated joints with micro-movement. She also works on the muscles that we use to chew with, outside of the head and inside the mouth. Results are a relaxed feeling in the jaw, along with less pressure in the head.
Neck pain can be caused by several things… perhaps you were in a car accident, got hurt as a kid in sports, or fell out of a tree. Other less obvious causes come from sitting at a computer all day, reading with your head forward, and holding your arm up while using your mouse. Poor posture plays a key component in neck strain, especially if you are doing it for 8 hours a day. Dr. Maria Funicello works to find the cause of the issue, helping to relieve or eliminate neck pain.
